I was born and raised in San Antonio, Texas, and spent a great deal of time around my grandparents growing up—and still do. “Gramps” is likely my favorite person in the world to spend time with. When I was young, he was diagnosed with bladder cancer. After a long course of extremely difficult therapy, he fully recovered. When I think about that uncertain time, I realize what a very different person I would be today had we lost Gramps. Having witnessed the effects of cancer on someone so important to me and my family, I was eager to be involved in something as worthy as YTAC when the San Antonio Chapter was chartered. It has been meaningful for me to be able to do something personally to increase cancer awareness among my peers and help contribute to cancer prevention and other cancer research.
